Public lectures will be arranged / delivered by the group members to create awareness among the general public, regarding to Smart Grid technology, its needs and benefits. A public survey will be done to get feedback on deployment of this technology in the country. General articles regarding to Smart Grid technology will be published in local newspapers and social media will also be used for the same cause.

 

Smart Grid Survey 

Smart Grid Research Group of The University of the West Indies carried out a Public Survey on Smart Grid during May 05 to May 31, 2016. The purpose of this survey was to gather information on public awareness about smart grid concept, their willingness to participate in energy saving/generation using renewable energy sources and their opinion about deployment of Smart Grid in Trinidad & Tobago. Survey was conducted using both online and offline tools. Two thousand one hundred seventy (2170) responses were received and detailed report will be posted on this website soon. Survey results will help in preparing recommendations to the government for a Green Paper on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Policy in Trinidad and Tobago. Samsung Galaxy J7 smartphone was presented to the lucky winner of the Survey Mr. Stefan Ramroopsingh.

Public Forum on the "Development of Trinidad and Tobago's Smart Grid"

On Thursday November 6th, 2014 at 2:00 pm, the public forum was held at the Noor Hassanali Auditorium, Faculty of Law, UWI St. Augustine.This forum was organized in association with The National Institute of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (NIHERST) and the T & T section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The main aim of the forum was to create awareness among the general public about the benefits of a Smart Grid, its Implementation challenges and how they too can Participate in forming a nationwide smart grid. The Forum was very well attended by about 100 participants the Including representative from the Ministry of Energy and Energy Affairs, T & TEC, NIHERST, IEEE, Renewable Energy Industry, Regulated Industries Commission, College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad & Tobago (COSTAATT) University of Trinidad & Tobago (UTT), University of Southern Caribbean (USC), UWI, media and the general public.
